Austin Landscape Painting: Bridge on the Capital of Texas Highway

I thought an Austin landscape painting with a holiday twist would be nice for my Christmas cards this year. After thinking about it, I came up with a cute pun for the title, then went looking for a subject.

It needed to depict a well known Austin-area scene, ideally on the west side of town where we live. So I decided on painting an Austin landscape based on an evening photo of the Pennybacker Bridge on RR360 (aka Capital of Texas Highway), and added the Christmas lights — artistic license 😉

The painting went well and it made me wish the bridge really was decorated with Christmas lights! Since I was a bit tardy getting this Austin landscape painting completed, I opted for online delivery rather than waiting for cards to be ordered, printed and shipped — hope you don’t mind.  So here is my Austin landscape-themed Christmas card to all of you: ‘Capita_ of Texas Highway Bridge’
